Why Choose a Natural Wool Flokati Rug

Flokati rugs are deep-pile wool shag rugs inspired by traditional Greek Flokati craftsmanship. Each rug in our collection is made from natural sheep's wool with a long, plush pile that adds warmth, texture and a soft underfoot feel to any room. Because the wool is natural and largely undyed, the rug works with almost any interior style — from minimalist Scandinavian to warm boho. Wool is also naturally durable and resilient, which is why these rugs have stayed popular as living-room, bedroom and nursery rugs for decades.

How to Choose Your Flokati Rug Density (1100 / 1400 / 2000 GSM)

Flokati density is measured in GSM — grams of wool per square metre — and it controls how thick and dense the pile feels. 1100 GSM is lighter and softer, ideal for bedside rugs, nurseries, kids' rooms and other low-traffic areas. 1400 GSM is our balanced everyday choice — plush enough to feel luxurious, dense enough for living rooms and bedrooms. 2000 GSM is the thickest, most luxurious option, with a full, dense pile that makes a statement in larger spaces. If you are unsure, 1400 GSM suits most rooms.

    Flokati Rug Sizing Guide

Our Flokati rug collection includes both rectangular and round sizes — from small bedside and accent rugs around 3 ft X 5 ft (90 × 150 cm) up to larger statement pieces of 8 ft X 10 ft (240 × 300 cm). Round Flokati rugs are available in three diameters (Ø 150, 180 and 240 cm). When choosing a rug size, measure the room first and consider how the rug should relate to the main furniture. For a living room, the rug usually looks best when the front legs of the sofa rest on it. For a dining area, choose a rug that extends at least 2 ft (60 cm) beyond the table edge on all sides so chairs slide in and out comfortably while still resting on the rug. Because each Flokati rug is hand-finished from natural wool, the final dimensions can vary by approximately ±3–5 cm from the listed size. If a room is tight on space, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up.

Flokati Rug Care & Cleaning Basics

Caring for a Flokati rug is simple if you follow a few basic rules. Shake the rug outdoors regularly to refresh the natural wool pile and remove dust. Vacuum gently using suction only — never use a vacuum with a rotating beater bar, as it can damage the long wool fibres and shorten the rug's life. For small spills, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth without rubbing, then let the rug dry fully before placing it back on the floor. For deeper cleaning, professional wool rug cleaning is the safest option. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, high heat and aggressive brushing — natural sheep's wool is durable but sensitive to strong cleaning agents. Light shedding is normal in the first few weeks of use and reduces noticeably over time as loose fibres trapped during weaving work their way out.

    What to avoid

No bleach, no fabric softeners, no machine washing, no tumble drying, no rotating beater bar vacuums, no direct steam cleaning.

    Shipping & Returns

We ship Flokati rugs worldwide from our workshop in Lithuania, EU. Orders over €35 / $35 qualify for free shipping where available, and the most accurate delivery estimate for your country is shown at checkout. EU orders usually arrive faster than overseas deliveries, while shipments to the United States, Canada, Australia and other non-EU countries can take longer depending on the destination carrier and seasonal volume. Local sales taxes and any customs or import rules may apply depending on the destination country. For U.S. customers, we currently absorb new U.S. import tariffs at checkout, so the price you see at checkout is the price you pay. Returns are accepted within the timeframe stated in our store policy — please contact us before returning a Flokati rug so we can confirm the right return address and protect the wool during transit.

    FAQs

Our Flokati rug collection is available in selected rectangular and round sizes, including small bedside rugs, medium room rugs and larger statement sizes. If you need a size that is not shown on the product page, contact us before ordering and we can confirm current availability or possible alternatives. For most rooms, choosing the closest available standard size is the fastest option and helps avoid delays with production, packing or shipping.

Shake your Flokati rug outdoors regularly to remove dust and refresh the wool pile. Vacuum gently using suction only, without a rotating beater bar. For small spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth and avoid rubbing the wool. Let the rug dry fully before placing it back on the floor. For deeper cleaning, professional wool rug cleaning is the safest option. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, high heat and aggressive brushing — they can damage natural wool fibres and shorten the life of the rug.

Flokati rugs are made from natural wool, so small size variations can happen. Please allow approximately ±3 cm from the listed dimensions. The pile is also long, so the visible "rug footprint" can look slightly larger or smaller depending on how the wool settles after unrolling. If a room is tight on space, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up, and measuring your room carefully before ordering. Standard sizes are the fastest to deliver.

Choose 1100 GSM if you want a lighter, softer Flokati rug for bedrooms, nurseries, bedside areas or low-traffic spaces. Choose 1400 GSM if you want a balanced everyday rug — plush and luxurious, but still suitable for living rooms and bedrooms; this is the most popular option. Choose 2000 GSM if you want the thickest, most dramatic Flokati rug, with a deep, dense pile that becomes the focal point of the room. Higher GSM means more wool per square metre and a fuller, denser pile.

Your Flokati rug is packed compactly for shipping, so the wool pile may look flatter or slightly creased when you first unroll it. This is normal. Lay the rug flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently and let the natural wool fibres relax and fluff up over the next few days. You can also gently fluff the pile by running your hand through the wool. Within roughly a week of normal use, the rug settles into its full, plush appearance.

Yes, light shedding can happen at the beginning. Flokati rugs are made from natural sheep's wool, and loose fibres trapped during weaving work their way out as you use the rug. This is normal for any new wool rug and reduces noticeably after the first few weeks. Regular gentle vacuuming and occasional outdoor shaking help speed up the process. Shedding does not mean the rug is damaged — it is part of how a natural wool rug settles in.
