Size

• Best for: Statement living rooms, master bedrooms, larger premium spaces
• Feel: Deep, dense, substantial — a real shag
• Density: 2000 GSM (our densest)
• Pile: 10 cm (4")
• Material:   100% natural sheep's wool

The 2000 GSM Natural Shag Flokati Rug is the thickest, most dramatic density in our collection — a deep, dense pile that becomes the focal point of the room. Made from 100% natural sheep's wool with a 10 cm (4") pile, this rug feels substantial underfoot in a way that lighter densities simply cannot match. It is the Flokati to choose when you want the rug itself to be the visual anchor of the space.

Best for

  • Large living rooms
  • Statement piece
  • Master bedrooms
  • Large open spaces

Why choose the 2000 GSM density

Higher GSM means more wool per square metre — and you feel the difference. The 2000 GSM has visibly more volume, holds its shape better in larger rooms, and gives a fuller appearance even from across the room. Because of the depth of the pile, it works best as a statement piece: under a low-profile coffee table in a living room, at the foot of a master bed, or as a single dramatic centrepiece in a larger open space.

What to expect when it arrives

Your rug arrives compactly rolled, so the wool pile may look flatter when you first unroll it. Lay it flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently, and let the natural wool relax over the next few days. With a deep-pile 2000 GSM rug, allow a little more time — usually a week to ten days of normal use — for the pile to recover its full dramatic depth.

Care basics

A deep-pile rug behaves differently from a low-pile one: it is heavier, the pile holds more dust, and it benefits from being shaken outdoors more often than a thinner rug. We recommend vacuuming gently using suction only — without a rotating beater bar — and shaking outdoors regularly to refresh the pile. For homes with pets or heavier use, the density of 2000 GSM tends to wear better than the lighter options.

Your Flokati rug is packed compactly for shipping, so the wool pile may look flatter when you first unroll it. This is normal. Lay the rug flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently, and let the natural wool relax over the next few days. Within roughly a week of normal use the pile recovers its full plush appearance.

Because Flokati rugs are made from natural wool and packed for shipping, small size variations can happen — please allow approximately ±3 cm from the listed dimensions. If a room is tight, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up.

FAQs

Choose 1100 GSM if you want a lighter, softer Flokati rug for bedrooms, nurseries, bedside areas or low-traffic spaces. Choose 1400 GSM if you want a balanced everyday rug — plush and luxurious, but still suitable for living rooms and bedrooms; this is the most popular option. Choose 2000 GSM if you want the thickest, most dramatic Flokati rug, with a deep, dense pile that becomes the focal point of the room. Higher GSM means more wool per square metre and a fuller, denser pile.

Flokati rugs are made from natural wool, so small size variations can happen. Please allow approximately ±3 cm from the listed dimensions. The pile is also long, so the visible "rug footprint" can look slightly larger or smaller depending on how the wool settles after unrolling. If a room is tight on space, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up, and measuring your room carefully before ordering. Standard sizes are the fastest to deliver.

Your Flokati rug is packed compactly for shipping, so the wool pile may look flatter or slightly creased when you first unroll it. This is normal. Lay the rug flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently and let the natural wool fibres relax and fluff up over the next few days. You can also gently fluff the pile by running your hand through the wool. Within roughly a week of normal use, the rug settles into its full, plush appearance.

Yes, light shedding can happen at the beginning. Flokati rugs are made from natural sheep's wool, and loose fibres trapped during weaving work their way out as you use the rug. This is normal for any new wool rug and reduces noticeably after the first few weeks. Regular gentle vacuuming and occasional outdoor shaking help speed up the process. Shedding does not mean the rug is damaged — it is part of how a natural wool rug settles in.

Shake your Flokati rug outdoors regularly to remove dust and refresh the wool pile. Vacuum gently using suction only, without a rotating beater bar. For small spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth and avoid rubbing the wool. Let the rug dry fully before placing it back on the floor. For deeper cleaning, professional wool rug cleaning is the safest option. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, high heat and aggressive brushing — they can damage natural wool fibres and shorten the life of the rug.
