The Plush Flokati Rug 1100 GSM is the lightest and softest density in our Flokati collection. With a 6 cm (2.5") natural wool pile and a balanced weight of 1100 grams per square metre, this shag rug brings the recognisable Flokati shag look into rooms where you want something airy and easy underfoot — not a heavy statement piece. It is made from 100% natural sheep's wool in an undyed off-white shade, inspired by traditional Greek Flokati craftsmanship and hand-finished in our small Lithuania-based workshop in the EU.

Best for

  • Bedrooms and master suites
  • Nurseries and children's rooms
  • Bedside rugs and reading corners
  • Guest rooms and small apartments
  • Home offices and dressing rooms

Why choose the 1100 GSM density

At 1100 GSM, this Flokati feels light, soft and a little airy — closer to a plush throw underfoot than a deep, dense shag. Because the pile is lighter, the rug is also easier to vacuum, easier to move, and quicker to fluff back up after furniture is rearranged. The natural off-white shade pairs with almost any interior — Scandinavian, minimalist, modern boho, mid-century, or traditional. Sizes range from a compact 3'×5' (90×150 cm) bedside rug up to 8'×10' (240×300 cm) for larger bedrooms. Natural sheep's wool also gives the rug practical benefits beyond looks: it insulates well — keeping the floor warmer in winter and cooler in summer — and the dense pile softens room acoustics, absorbing footsteps and reducing echo in hard-floor rooms.

What to expect when it arrives

Your rug ships compactly rolled, so the wool pile may look flatter than the photos when you first unroll it. This is normal for any natural wool shag rug. Lay it flat in the room, give it a gentle shake, and within a few days of normal use the pile recovers its full plush appearance. Light shedding can occur in the first weeks — this is loose wool from the weaving process working its way out, and it reduces noticeably over time.

Care basics

Shake outdoors regularly and vacuum gently using suction only, without a rotating beater bar. Blot small spills with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub. For deeper cleaning, professional wool rug cleaning is the safest option. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals and high heat, which damage natural wool fibres.

Your Flokati rug is packed compactly for shipping, so the wool pile may look flatter when you first unroll it. This is normal. Lay the rug flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently, and let the natural wool relax over the next few days. Within roughly a week of normal use the pile recovers its full plush appearance.

Because Flokati rugs are made from natural wool and packed for shipping, small size variations can happen — please allow approximately ±3 cm from the listed dimensions. If a room is tight, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up.

FAQs

Choose 1100 GSM if you want a lighter, softer Flokati rug for bedrooms, nurseries, bedside areas or low-traffic spaces. Choose 1400 GSM if you want a balanced everyday rug — plush and luxurious, but still suitable for living rooms and bedrooms; this is the most popular option. Choose 2000 GSM if you want the thickest, most dramatic Flokati rug, with a deep, dense pile that becomes the focal point of the room. Higher GSM means more wool per square metre and a fuller, denser pile.

Flokati rugs are made from natural wool, so small size variations can happen. Please allow approximately ±3 cm from the listed dimensions. The pile is also long, so the visible "rug footprint" can look slightly larger or smaller depending on how the wool settles after unrolling. If a room is tight on space, we recommend choosing the next size down rather than the next size up, and measuring your room carefully before ordering. Standard sizes are the fastest to deliver.

Your Flokati rug is packed compactly for shipping, so the wool pile may look flatter or slightly creased when you first unroll it. This is normal. Lay the rug flat in the room where you will use it, shake it gently and let the natural wool fibres relax and fluff up over the next few days. You can also gently fluff the pile by running your hand through the wool. Within roughly a week of normal use, the rug settles into its full, plush appearance.

Yes, light shedding can happen at the beginning. Flokati rugs are made from natural sheep's wool, and loose fibres trapped during weaving work their way out as you use the rug. This is normal for any new wool rug and reduces noticeably after the first few weeks. Regular gentle vacuuming and occasional outdoor shaking help speed up the process. Shedding does not mean the rug is damaged — it is part of how a natural wool rug settles in.

Shake your Flokati rug outdoors regularly to remove dust and refresh the wool pile. Vacuum gently using suction only, without a rotating beater bar. For small spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth and avoid rubbing the wool. Let the rug dry fully before placing it back on the floor. For deeper cleaning, professional wool rug cleaning is the safest option. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, high heat and aggressive brushing — they can damage natural wool fibres and shorten the life of the rug.
